Guzmania musaica is a stemless, evergreen, epiphytic perennial plant growing 20–40 cm tall. It features light green leaves up to two feet long with reddish and dark green transverse striations, forming a central rosette. The plant produces a striking inflorescence consisting of a long stem topped by pink-red bracts and numerous waxy tubular yellow flowers arranged in spikes. After flowering and fruiting, the plant dies, a characteristic of its monocarpic lifecycle.
